Every season, there’s a slew of new and must-have designer handbags that make our hearts flutter with want and our eyes glaze with joy and desire. Owning at least one is the goal; owning them all is the dream. Not that we’re greedy or anything …

Jacquemus : Le Chiquito

We’re not sure how useful the micro tote from Jacquemus can be (lipstick, okay, but keys as well? Might be pushing it …) but either way, we’re going crazy for Le Chiquito. Hand crafted in Spain from gorgeously soft, supple calf skin, you need to pounce fast if you want to get your hands on one, as they sell out pretty much as soon as they drop. Lamenting the wallet that doesn’t allow you to buy into this trend? A new version, that looks about as small as the average person’s budget, has been released – it literally hooks over a finger and holds, erm, one airpod.

Bottega Veneta : The Pouch

Forget the clutch, this season we’re all about the Pouch. No, not some nod towards Australia and its kangaroos, but a slouchy, strapless, oversized bag that’s taken fashion circles by storm. The buttery calfskin from which it’s crafted makes it the kind of tactile joy you’ll want to hold close to your body – but, even with a handful of colours and sizes on offer, these babies sell out fast – although you can potentially pre-order from the BV website.

Chanel: waist bag

Bum bug, fanny pack, belt bag – call it what you want, but it’s definitely having a resurgence. Banish thoughts of the ones you’d use for travelling though – you know, close to the body, inconspicuous, and slim line – the ones we’re lusting after RN are completely visible and statement-esque. Who better than to encircle our waists than Chanel, in all its quilted, buckled, CC’d glory?

The Row: Bindle Double Knot

Just when you thought designer bags were getting unfeasibly petite (see Jacquemus : Le Chiquito) those unfeasibly petite Olsen twins bring out a capacious, slouchy hobo number that laughs in the face of micro. Pulled in with a double knot on the handle, this handbag comes in a range of textures and colours and basically epitomises effortless cool. Keep the rest of your silhouette minimal and narrow for maximum impact.

Chloé: The C

Featuring a jumbo-sized metal C at the clasp, this new range of bags ticks all of the ‘so chic it hurts’ boxes and comes in a range of gorgeously earthy shades, ranging from neutral to bold, to blend effortlessly with every wardrobe – and the choice of shoulder bags, clutches and messengers means that there’s a style to suit everyone’s carrying needs.

Altuzarra: Play

With its strong equestrian aesthetic, this is one bag which will work season after season. It features an exaggerated hobo shape, with its unstructured shape given an edge and structure by a series of metal buckles, drawing in the sides and base. Not into horses? Not a problem: the designer has revealed that the juxtaposition of straps and slouch is inspired by seduction and bondage.

Loewe: Raffia & Leather Saddle Bag

Leather and raffia: who’da thunk? We love how the designers have cleverly taken a classic style and timeless leather and have given it a more summery appeal with the addition of natural, beachy elements. The perfect transeasonal bag, it will look just as stylish against weekend jeans as with mid-week suits and a lightweight coat.

Fendi: The Baguette

Those of you who channel a healthy amount of La Bradshaw will know that this is not a bag – it’s a baguette: remember her response to her mugger in SATC? In any case, the fashion house has re-released the iconic accessory, so fashionistas everywhere can stop scouring the likes of Vestiaire and get their hands on a new one, which now comes in a range of different sizes and with the option of detachable shoulder straps.

Paco Rabanne: Iconic Chain Bag

There’s no such thing as too much metallic, and fashionistas have gone crazy for this Paco Rabanne design, which brings back the chainmail of the Swinging Sixties and gives It a bold, contemporary feel. Featuring a chain shoulder strap and open top, the absence of additional detail ensures that the label’s distinctive discs take centre stage: this is a go-to evening bag that looks just as right for day when carried with a smidge of attitude.

Burberry TB Crossbody

Featuring a monogrammed TB clasp – a nod to the fashion house’s OG, Thomas Burberry – this is the kind of classic style you’d typically associate with Burberry. An adjustable and detachable shoulder strap gives ease of carrying, while a choice of two sizes has you covered for inner space. We particularly love the chic appeal of the two-tone variation, which will work with a range of outfits and accessories.
